Random: The Maps

Beijing addresses can be cryptic, particularly when the place you’re looking for is in a compound down some tiny, barely-marked alley.

I did this map to our place in December 2011, to help guests find their way to the Christmas dinner party we hosted.  I did it first in pencil and then in ink.  Landmarks are there to guide you past whichever shops or notable places on the way, e.g. the apple is for a fruit store, a boot for a shoe shop, etc.

I put this next map together for the first Beijing Open Reading — hosted by The Vine Leaf, a cozy little pub/restaurant conveniently located around the corner from our place!  (This, of course, was not an accident!)  It still needed its own map, though, this one done in a bit more detail.

The method and medium remain the same.
